Note from the author:
When I was young, I loved telling stories. They usually included horses and a dog. The written word didn’t happen often. As a dyslexic, I didn’t learn to read until I was 28 years old.
Each month my grandmother received a paper grocery bag full of Harlequin romance novels. She and my mom would read through them in a month and pass the books on. When I went on bedrest to prevent the miscarriage of my second baby girl, they decided I would learn to read. Gram’s read a book, then Mom, and then me. I’m sure their frustration was right up there with handing the newspaper to a first grader.
From there, I continued reading what they gave me. Fabio modeled on 75% of all the covers. My skill grew with each novel I read. When baby girl #2 arrived, my favorite marine sent me a Writer’s Digest with a sticky note, “I believe you should write.“
I read the magazine from front to back, a few of times. Bought a hardback journal and wrote my first long hand smutty novel. All the while, reading other romance novels, super novels, smutty and sweet novels. Then I discovered smutty gothic romance..
My then husband found religion, and it was time to burn the books. I didn’t have a copy, and the first draft was gone. Soon followed by divorce. I returned to my parents’ home with two little girls, and my mother had a typewriter.
Fast forward to the support my favorite marine gave to me as I wrote my first spicy romance. There was a plot and lots of smexy scenes. I sold it upon the first submission. Then it took a while for the second one to take hold, and I changed genres.
Less spice and more ghosts is what I write now as I travel the lower continental 48, with two pups and two kitties.
What’s next, you might ask? Be on the look-out for smexy scenes in the Maverick series. I’ve got more stories to tell.
